Dangerous Trip to the Mountain Village

We went to an area that was high up in the mountains. It is a dangerous area but we all felt that God was leading us to have a one night evangelical campaign meeting here. This village was quite isolated. To get there we had to climb up a winding, thin and often steep mountain pathway. At times the view was breathtaking, but to trek up and down the mountain was quite punishing for our bodies.

May is the rainy season in the Philippines so every evening there are torrential downpours. Because of this the pathway is muddy and quite slippery in places. As we went up the mountain for almost 3 hours our leg muscles would start to burn, at times when the path was very steep we became short of breath. It is a Jungle area so the heat and and humidity are oppressive. You become wet from your own sweat within the first minute.

Your last test you have to face before you teach the village is to cross an old rusting suspension bridge about 100 feet above the river that sways back and forth when you walk on it. I could see the fear gripping the faces of those who are afraid of heights. We were all happy to go to the village for the love of the lost souls.

This is a rebel area that is controlled by the New Peoples Army. Everyone is armed is this village and many snipers live there. These snipers can easily shoot you from 1000 meters away. Many of the people there have M-16s and similar weapons. I was told that the police and the military will not go to this village. Just minutes after we arrived there three gunshots were fired just a few house away but nothing happened to us. Thank God for his divine protection.

We had our revival meeting as scheduled and many people came but they were really not entering in at first. As I preached I spent quite a bit of time ministering to the people about the purpose of Jesus death upon the cross. About 20 people came forward to ask Jesus into their hearts at the altar call. And after that we started praying for the sick and each and everyone told us they received their healing. Praise the Lord.

One man had a painful left arm so before we prayed for him I set up a plastic chair and I called up a strong young man to have an arm wrestling competition with the man with the painful arm. We did pray for him first he was healed and the the man beat the other young man with the arm that had been painful just minutes before.

When we arrived back at our vehicle we were so excited about what the Lord had done. The Lord walked right into the rebel village and started adding people to the kingdom of God.
