Devastation to crops from Super Typhoon Mangkhut /Ompong
CNN called Typhoon Mangkhut the world’s strongest storm on earth this year. In the Philippines they called it Super Typhoon Ompong. Washington Post claimed it to be “four times as intense as Hurricane Florence.” It had sustained winds of more than 165 mph at its core with gusts of 200 mph. “In gusts as powerful as those within Mangkhut, a Boeing 737 could lift off the ground without even igniting its twin engines,” wrote Washington Post. They also wrote, “Many mountain communities … could see two to three feet of rain. Flooding may result in landslides that could isolate remote communities, if not wipe them out.”
One of our faithful Prayer Partners lives in the Philippines. While Hurricane Florence as a Category 2 was hitting the United States, Super Typhoon Mangkhut as a Category 4/5 was hitting the Philippines.
As the storm was hitting, our Prayer Partner posted this: “Very strong winds and heavy rains. our Province was directly hit by the typhoon. We are signal number 4 .. please keep praying for us. Some rooftop now taken by the strong winds. And some of my relatives are now in our House. Lord Jesus keep us Safe. In Jesus name.”
We kept them in constant prayer as we waited to hear from her. Around midnight our time, we got a message from her saying that the winds were still strong and it rains, we are OK. God is good.
Finally, at around 8:30 in the morning we got the news! “Hello Sis the storms is over now. Praise God we are safe. We have damages (to) our Fruits crop like banana and other more are damage but we are still praising God we are Alive we have no electricity now …. There is no damage Sis God hold our house … Some of their (the neighbor’s) roofs taken by the wind some don’t have food now because relief goods is not coming”
Praise God!! He put his hand of protection over her home. When others lost their roofs, her house did not receive any damage! Later we learned that the church remained intact also. People evacuated to the church during the storm. God surely protected them through this massive storm!! Praise God! Alleluia!
